the 3 chosen blogs to be assessed are:

https://squado.wordpress.com/2010/03/14/blog-week-4-writing-webpage-html-css/

https://squado.wordpress.com/2010/02/21/starting-blog/

as for talking about traffic and stuff of my blog, well it was quite steady. there really wasnt any type that made more people that read it. though for a person that has never written a blog before i think my efforts to even remember to write a weekly blog was a good effort. i know mine wasnt as good as other peoples blogs but i spoke about what i wanted and when i wanted. there probably more i could have put in but but just because i didnt put that stuff in my blog doesnt mean i didnt look at it.

any way for the final time for this semester

Project B Rationale

May 15, 2010 Leave a comment

So for project B there was the choice of creating a data viz or a geo narritive. I chose the geo narrative. Now the hardest thing that was to get started was figuring out the storyline. But now that I have that done, i chose to follow the lines of a movie. I adjusted the story to make it my own and to fit this project.

The story is based in canberra. The reason that I chose this was because while i could have done other places it was easier for me to put locations in the places that I took the photos. I went around to a number of places and took photo. There is 13 photos in total and 29 tag points. The photos I felt should not reflect specifically andyone but should be of a related nature to the story as to not put a face to it. So after I took the photos i also added a filter layer to the photos to add an effect. This creates a artistic look on the positining as well as the non personal attachment that I just talked about.

The decision to make a path for each person was made as each character is seperate from each other a some point in the story and while it does create what might be interperated as clutter is I found it added character to the piece to show the real journey of the characters.

The reasons why the paths of each character isn’t perfectly neat that depending on the magnification of the map it appears diferently. So in close the paths may look untidy but the idea of doing this is to add the effect of from a much lower magnification of the map you can see a distinguishment of each persons path and for a closer view of exactly who is there you take a closer look. IE from a distance only one colour may apperar but by adding a larger gap between the lines (making the lines not follow the road etc exactly) it allowed you to see multiple coloured lines.

The tag points may not be precise either, and this was done as unless you are at maximum magnification then it is hard to click on each point easily. So by adding a space between the tag point even if they occured in the story in the same place, it allows it to be clicked individually without clicking on another one by mistake.

As for the position on the map of where each event would occur, because this is a fictional story I found it best that i put each major point in a different suburb as to allow travel time between each tag point aswell as it would be really cluttered if it was all in a close proximity. The locations of most points such as the alcohol shops are in there true locations as in real life though of cause it is fictional story. The places of the houses were random as to set up for following tag points and following storyline as well as to add that travel time and decluttering.

The photos added on the tag point are uploaded on Picasa are added to the tag through the rich text option.

The storyline on the side bar is put in order of what to follow in order to reveal the story in order as it was written.

the geo narritive is in google my maps and is called “a day to remember”

and the URL is:

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=a+day+to+remember&sll=-35.215332,149.146614&sspn=0.197466,0.307274&ie=UTF8&mrt=ds&ct=onebox&cd=20&cad=onebox

what we do this week. well just cos your excited to know ill tell ya. it has nothing to do with the fact that i have to write a blog every week. this week we looked at data visualisation. basically it is showing data in a visual form. but it also has to have some kind of depth to it. ie use if hover over tool to illustrate information. alot of dataviz is made in flash due to this feature.but basically what we did was look at what makes up a dataviz. we looked at sources such a few dataviz from NY Times graphics, also the oakland police have website that shows what crimes occur where. and basically alot of different sources. so if u wanna know look it up what dataviz are. some can be really cool in looks.

week 10, blog wk 9

so this week we took a trip down multiplicity lane. yeh u know what that is. well yeh u probably dont. its basically the use of multiple users adding collective knowledge to a pool. oh yeh i said pool. wow thats random. anyways u know like if u use multiple stuff from users like flicker photos and entries into other sorts of media. so the idea of multiplicity is like sampling, the more samples you take then the more accurate it becomes, like ‘rate my hotness’ website. the more people that vote then the more accurate it becomes. or for other stuff the multiplicity is just for information spread. in a way that fits. like twitter, it uses the input of lots of users. did you know that there are now 50million tweets per day. i mean omg do these people hav a life. “omg i just got some mail”, “im so hungry now” like da, its lunch, “i love my job” WE DONT CARE. wow twitter is such a waste of time. the only thing i can think twitter is good for is posting where u are and where u are going when you on holidays. coz that way if somthing goes wrong then people know where u were and where going. but thats really it. oh and if ur a celeb that wants big audience factor by followers. oh for those that saw the presentation there were pretty pictures of multiple stuff, like pretty colourful costumes of people doing the sam thing and like the bejing olympics. oh and if your reading it go look at the video called somthing like the ‘1k project’ its awsome. and Aaron Koblin’s Flightpatterns, that was awsome. thats some pretty cool illustrations oh and of the multiplicity thing. and the other one is the ted.com – photosynth. though its a microsoft thing its a great concept. one problem microsoft the world doesnt have  t1 broadband. come on aus barely has and sort of decent stable (and emphasis on stable) internet connection.  so that kind of thing is useless. well thats basically it. this week it was bout lots of stuff being combined to make more stuff, and some that has pretty colours, YAY

thats it 4 this week

Semester Wk 9, Blog Wk 8

April 11, 2010 Leave a comment

well this week we looked at web 2.0. basically it was about the change of net since about 2000. basically we looked at what web pages have exceeded since the change. also looking at the long tail effect. if u dont know that then look it up coz i so dont feel like explaining it right now. But what we found out that is kinda kewl is ‘google trends’ . never heard of it, then look it up. basically u compare one thing 2 another with the amount of people looking at it. heres a challenge, find anything that compares even close to facebook. youtube is the closest but still doesnt compare. also on a side note this lecture provided me with some sources that coul become useful, such as domain name companies, hosting services, and other random sites such as twistori. that really about it. just looking at trends of the net this week.

so ciao

Project A Rationale

March 26, 2010 Leave a comment

By now bloggers you may be aware that my assessment is a website. In particular a website for my brand/company, Per-Squado Productions. So why did I choose that, well I have no idea, there really was no other thing that interested me in making a website for.

Well onto the design of it. Firstly as per almost every good website my logo is located at the top left corner, this is done because it is the most easiest way to illustrate the purpose of the website. And along side of it is a logo linked to this blog. I should also mention that there is a link to this blog also on the first page.

So layout. Below the top icon are tabs. This makes it easy navigation throughout the website. This layout design is displayed throughout all the web pages except for the photo preview pages. this is done because the focus is then on the photos and not the layout. also because I couldn’t get the photos to be positions easily with the top images and tabs there.

The top 2 image and the navigation tabs are in tables in order to get them to be positioned the way they do. Also the rest of the page ie the sidebar and the content of the page is put into a table in order to make the positioning easy.

So the background is coded in order that it will always be 100% wide and high. Because I did use a large pixel background image I didn’t want it to be cropped depending on monitor size so that’s why I made it to always appear you window size.

The problem I had then was the text couldn’t be read on the background so I added a transparent background in order to read the text. But the issue that occurred then is that the text was also then transparent so I added a text shadow in css stylesheet so the text could be read easier. however i must say that the shadow I know doesn’t work with Firefox. I do know it does work with Google Chrome and Safari. I also found that any images that are inserted into this area are also transparent. I looked how to over come this but it turned out to be more time efficient to just go other ways about avoiding this.

At the bottom of each page is links to RSS feed, Facebook page, Twitter & MySpace. However since this isn’t a live website these links just go to an html page that I created to illustrate the purpose of having the link but this page then explains what I am doing here.

On the main page I inserted images into the text in order to break it up. It did look not very stimulating without these images inserted. Also at the bottom of the main page I have added a link to this blog.

The video page also has images inserted into the text in order to break up the look of text on its own. This page also has a video embedded into it linking it to an external video sourcing  from an external site.

The photography page has on the bottom of it a link to a small photo gallery of images. I not only made the text that says there is a small gallery but also the small image below it, link to the gallery. I found that it was easier to have either one a link as it is then a general click by the user instead of specifically just the text was a link.

The Audio page has a YouTube video embedded relating to the content but just to show that I can do it in this project.

The Contact, RSS, Facebook, Twitter & MySpace pages are just a basic layout just to illustrate the point that this is not a live website and this link and or information is not present. It is only to show that I can create a link, and have a link there to make it look like a real website.

And finally the photo preview page. Why I made it the way it is, is because I didn’t want to add java into the page in order to achieve the same result. Each image on all pages is hyper-linked to its appropriate link also the ‘prev’ and ‘next’ links are all active and are made in order to continue through the photos in an infinite loop. And there is a link written in words below the images in order to return to the photography page as there is no navigation bar on these pages like all the other pages.

Apart from that the written content is just there to fill in the blank areas.

There we go that’s the rationale to why I did what I did for the project.
